  12.      The file /_d_e_v/_t_t_y is, in each process, a synonym for the control terminal
  13.      associated with the process group of that process, if any.  It is useful
  14.      for programs or shell sequences that wish to be sure of writing messages
  15.      on the terminal no matter how output has been redirected.  It can also be
  16.      used for programs that demand the name of a file for output, when typed
  17.      output is desired and it is tiresome to find out what terminal is
  18.      currently in use.
